A Tribute to Design
Six years ago, after attending a design event in Manhattan, Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus co-founder, Debbie McCabe, decided to launch a design competition in her hometown of Portland.
Serving Up Style, a table top/dining room design competition, was born.
From its modest beginning, the event grew, becoming a must-do for Portland’s interior designers, product designers and architects. After all, good design – of all things from products to space – is what defines Portland – and has for a very long time.
Noted architect and city planner, Edward Bennett, imagined a waterfront park where only docks existed on the Willamette River’s western shore in 1912. And good things have followed.
From urban design to architecture, interior design to fine art, Portland has been blessed with people who stand firm and proud in their defense of how things should work.
We at Molly’s Fund think creators and defenders of good design should be honored, recognized and applauded. At the A Tribute to Design gala and auction benefiting Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus, we will do just that.
We are celebrating the contributions of four honorees in the following categories:
- Fine Arts: Tad Savinar
- Architecture: Skylab
- Urban Design: Ron Paul
- Interior Architecture + Industrial Design: Michael Czysz

About the Gala
During the 2014 gala, over 500 people joined together to drink, dine, and mingle with Portland’s top designers, all to raise awareness and money to help support the programs offered by the non-profit organization, Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus. A silent auction and live auction started the evening, followed by an award ceremony recognizing the most outstanding dining rooms. This event is the largest of the design community in the Portland metropolitan area and Southwest Washington. Tickets sold out fast so be sure to get your 2015 tickets as soon as they are available, to the hottest design event of the year!
Guests were greeted on the red carpet. Photos and celebration ensued. The cocktail hour offered unique entertainment fit for the creative environment and a chance to view the amazing dining rooms and bid on some great silent auction packages. We had aerial performers and living cocktail tables! Dinner was served and a live auction followed. For the 2015 event, think about upgrading your table as (during an exciting opening-of-the-evening’s-festivities-live auction) to enjoy a dinner fit for a queen or king. Then sit back and enjoy dessert and learn who received the top awards for Serving Up Style! It’s a fantastic night you won’t soon forget.
Please take a moment to watch this touching video as our Patient of the Year, Kelli Roseta, shares her struggles and triumphs battling the devastating disease of lupus. Patients like Kelli are the reason Molly’s Fund Fighting Lupus holds this gala each year, raising funds to help those whose lives are affected by lupus.
